On Porto’s doorstep, Peneda-Gerês National Park is Portugal’s only national park — a mid-mountain massif shaped by deep valleys, ancient forests and a still-paved Roman road. With free-roaming Garrano horses, waterfalls and stone villages, Gerês offers rugged, varied terrain, just an hour and a half from the Atlantic coast.
It is an ideal playground for trail running: more than 300 marked trails, serious elevation and diverse routes that wind through forests, rivers and mountain hamlets.
Every outing reveals a new side of the park, from the Roman road to waterfalls and rocky summits.
Over the course of the trip, the effort on the trails also makes way for discovery: wine tasting in the Douro Valley, a walking exploration of Porto’s historic centre, and a spa session to round off the mountain chapter.
The experience is designed as a balance of effort, culture and renewal — with a final chapter devoted to the majestic city of Porto.
